Mary Morrison’s long and distinguished performing career includes principal operatic roles with the Canadian Opera Company and the CBC Opera Company, solo appearances with the New York Philharmonic, and the symphony orchestras of San Francisco, Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg, as well as recitals, chamber music and recordings. She has been featured at prestigious international music festivals throughout North America, Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan.
For 30 years Mary has taught at universities across Canada as well as L’Atelier Lyrique de L’Opera de Montreal, Centre D’Arts Orford, The Banff Centre and the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies at Aldenburgh, England. She continues to teach at the
Mary Morrison’s many honours include a 1968 Canadian Music Citation in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Music in Canada, appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1983, the Medal of Service to the Arts from the City of Toronto in 1985, the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in 1993, and in 2002 the Opera Educator Award for the 3rd Annual Opera Canada “Rubies” ceremony.
