The Canadian Yves Abel is Principal Guest Conductor at Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has recently conducted a new production of Simon Boccanegra and performances of Le nozze di Figaro, La traviata, Don Pasquale, Werther, and Dialogues des Carmélites.

He has conducted at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Netherlands Opera, San Francisco Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Naples’ Teatro San Carlo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna,, Lisbon’s Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne Opera Festival and Pesaro’s Rossini Opera Festival.

This season he makes debuts at Teatro alla Scala in Milan (La Fille du régiment) and at Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (a new production of Le Roi d’Ys), and returns to Vienna State Opera (a new production of La Fille du régiment).  In upcoming seasons he returns to Deutsche Oper Berlin for new productions of Tiefland, Carmen, and Don Giovanni, and will conduct at Vienna State Opera (Madama Butterfly and L’italiana in Algeri), Gran Teatre del Liceu (La Fille du régiment), Teatro San Carlo (La traviata), Seattle Opera (Dialogues of the Carmelites), and Bilbao (La Fille du régiment, and Norma).

Mr. Abel’s orchestral engagements include recent debuts with Orquestra Nacional do Porto (Portugal), Montreal Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Netherlands Philharmonic at the Royal Concertgebow, Orchestre National de Lyon, Toronto Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Edmonton Symphony, and the orchestras of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro San Carlo (Naples), the Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Teatro Lirico di Cagliari (Sardinia).  His recordings include Massenet’s Thaïs with Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson, and C’est ça la vie with mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.

Mr. Abel is also Music Director of Opéra Français de New York.
